Can you use mh for flowering

Hard for me to say what you will get from that, as I know nothing of your skills. One thing I will say is, something is better than nothing any day.

Good luck. Peace GS. Don't forget that metal halide is just the process on how the bulb is lit, hps too, both just different techniques for creating light. What you should be concerned with is the kelvin rating. Most mh bulbs are 4k and up, the blue range.

Lots of people flower with blue light and have excellent results. Hope all goes well for ya! DJ Short believes MH gives the plant more flavor and aroma. Texas Kid posted an article by him somewhere here on the Farm. I flowered some of his blueberry in a soil bed under a w MH. Flavor was excellent, but not sure it was the light. It will be fine. MH bud will be a little less dense, so you lose a little weight per bud, but if grown well quality will be steller. I've seen in more than once instance, plants really like the blue light.

The HPS won't be far behind and will win on weight. There is some evidence showing that the more uv in blue light increases cannabinoid content. My first crop was grown under watt MH only. Now in my experiments running a blue light in flower yields less. But quality is always better.

Yet it does keep the plant a darker green in the end. Yet we all know that HPS puts out almost twice the lummens per watt. I've heard of people using both in flower to the end, and going all MH in the begining or last weeks of flower. I've even heard rumors of people using 10,k MH the last 2 weeks of flower for poientcy.

Also does anyone use dual arch bulbs? That makes total sense that you had a awesome veg. But sadly you lose lummens on the MH side I have always wondered if full spectrum wavelenghts really worth it in flower?

I'm thinking of switching to all HPS now. Because my plants on the MH side are smaller and growing slowwwww Then maybe switch in the last 2 weeks back to MH after I get good size.

This will get you the benefits of the blue spectrum in the MH without causing your plants to become too leafy at the expense of bud production,. I saw a unit with dual provide great results. I actually disagree with the aove statement adding some blue to the hp is the way i would go. Still probably not life and death in terms of results.

I used a hortilux super blue metal halide last cycle, yield was horrible compared to hps but the quality was untouched. For the last year ive been running them first two and last two weeks, with slight noticable differences in trichs and resin, after a year i concluded its not worth the extra loot or hassle. Still have not got around to using a splitter to run dual s of dif kelvin ratings in a single hood tho. HPS grow lights are composed of a reddish or orange color spectrum which is associated with the flowering phase of a plant.

The higher lumen or light intensity is also gotten from high-pressure sodium lights. The intensity is usually 25 to 40 percent greater than metal halide bulbs or even the same wattage. This is why HPS is better for flowering because the more light the better for the flowering plant results. MH is great for the vegetative stage, while HPS is great for the flowering and fruiting stage and this combination will give you the best growing result. LED grow light can be used as a standalone light for all your plant growth stage.

LED used to cost a lot to purchase, but now, there are various options that can suit your budget. All in all, whichever choice you decide to go for, be sure that either HID or LED light will give your plants what they require to grow adequately with the right conditions.

Table of Contents. Check Price on Amazon. Share Tweet Pin. They sure don't hurt anything. I've had plants about an inch from the bulb without burning.

But it's still to get better pics in the flower room. Like the early weeks of flowering? Perhaps I could experiment with alternating the bulbs, I have a dual ballast that can take both.. Many growers report getting good yields from combining the 2 types in flowering, this would be the cheapo way of doing it.

Or would that stress the plants? Then again, it's my first grow, maybe I should just use the HPS now and use MH in flowering for the clones to see if there is any difference. I guess it boils down to KISS-principle, experience and sticking with what works. And as the strains are different, different approaches can be used to optimize grow setting. I have heard of the term but don't know what it really means I doubt your plants would be stressed if you went back and forth with MH and HPS, but if you really want to mix, get a setup that allows you to have both on at the same time.

Don't worry too much about it, concentrate on growing healthy plants to maturity for your first grow. You can have them on the whole flower period and not bother with changing out HID bulbs. I saw those lizard lights on sale lately.. Well swapping bulbs sounds like a hassle. Right now im mixing. Usually i just use all hps because they are the best overall.

But you can use them thru flower if need be. Youre not gonna see a huge drop in yields. If you use a watts of halide or hps ur gonna yield pretty well. I dont sell so I could give a shit about yields. What you gotta remember is youre trying to create nature indoors. In spring its largely blue rays from sun, like mh In fall you get more red spectrum like hps.

Used to be typical to go from mh to hps when flowering is induced. All the talk about increased trichs n all that, not sure. I just figure a lil variety cant hurt.

No other reason im using the mh right now cuz that ballast is flippable and hps and mh are the same price at my grow store. Just read whazzups topics, im sure all ur answers can be found in his threads. Yeah, I got mine on sale.

Kind of insanely priced when not on sale. People who keep lizards must really be into it.
